Hi there!

It's May which means…drum rolls, please 🥁
It's PAADC's application month🥳. While we can't give you an exact date yet, we can tell you to expect applications to open this month. Yup! We know you have been waiting so it's time to get those ideas ready.
We promised that this edition will be exciting, captivating, and mind-blowing. Well, we are living up to that promise. It's time to take you, our dear readers, through what we have been up to at PAADC.
Let's dive in!
Updates from The NEXUS
The second edition of the PAADC NEXUS was held yesterday and it was remarkable!
This edition themed “The Techpreneur Mindset" was moderated by Ifunanya Ezeokoye and it was graced by 3 Phenomenal speakers. The speakers were Victor Ukachukwu, Mide Alonge and Nathan Nwachuku.
Victor Ukachukwu, co-founder of Nebstar.io kicked off the session with an extensive presentation. He began by demystifying what the Techpreneur mindset is; stating that a Techpreneur is an entrepreneur that can tap into technology and transform minor opportunities into commercial realities.
He went further to state that being a Techpreneur is about an attitude, a mindset, and an approach. Victor also added that being a Techpreneur in Africa is an added advantage as there are many problems to solve and such innovations can leverage technology. He came to the end of his presentation by sharing the qualities of successful Techpreneurs around the world.
Mide Alonge blew us away with his practical and experience-based Q/A session. The back and forth with the speakers and the clear-cut answers he provided were nothing short of fantastic.
“The environment you are in shapes the problem you are trying to solve. The youths are key to solving their problems with the right resources and environment. If you come up with an idea that solves a problem, people will be willing to support it and pay for it. ”- Mide Alonge
Nathan Nwachuku a.k.a the poster boy of the God-When foundation shared his story of how he got into the tech space at the tender age of 15. He also spotlighted the key things that have kept him relevant in the industry over the last 4 years. Asides from the hacks he provided about navigating the waters of LinkedIn, one of the key takeaways was his stance on over-planning.
“Nowadays, people get caught up in overplanning and overthinking. I’m not saying you shouldn’t plan at all. Just don’t let it get to the point where that planning is preventing you from actually taking action. Take a page out of Nike’s book and just do it!”- Nathan Nwachuku
It was truly an eye-opening and insightful event. If you attended it, you certainly left feeling very inspired; and if you missed out on the event, you can watch it on YouTube.
DR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS
One of the most anticipated movies of 2022 was released on Friday. Following the success of Spiderman-No Way Home, everyone has been looking forward to the next insane movie Marvel has for the world. This movie filled us with a lot of emotions, excitement, and thrills.
Without giving much away, if you’re a fan of Wanda, you’d love this movie as Elizabeth Olsen truly brought the character to life. The movie really earned the title “The multiverse of madness,” as critics described it as a mind-flipping masterpiece.
STEM Roundup
Twitter is elevating community and privacy to new heights. The platform announced on Tuesday that it was testing a new feature called "Circle", which will allow users to create a closed community of up to 150 followers to tweet to.
Twitter already has a feature that allows you to restrict who can see your tweets. The social media giant has allowed users to make their accounts private since 2014, letting them vet each and everyone following requests. The Circle feature takes this a step further by allowing users to share their thoughts with a smaller group of people. Consider it Twitter's answer to Instagram's Close Friends or even the dormant Google Plus.
Away from Social Media, HAVAC, a venture capital firm based in South Africa, has completed its $20 million pan-African investment fund for tech-enabled African businesses. The fund is dubbed the HAVAC Universum Core African Fund after the collaboration between HAVAC and Universum Wealth, was launched in 2020, and is ready to fly.
The fund invests in early-stage, high-growth technology companies in Africa's South, East, and West. It intends to make 25 investments over the next three years. A third of the funds have already been invested in early-stage African tech companies such as Kenya's Tanda, RecoMed, Mobiz, Comparisure, Aura, HearX, Nigeria's Kuda, and, most recently, Crowd Force.
