Introduction
Hi there,
We know some of you missed us last week😂. Moving forward, we promise to always deliver on time😉. In all honesty, this delay was very much worth it. We didn't write to you last weekend because we have great news for you and we wanted to deliver it to you specially.
Drum roll please🥁🥁 !!
Applications for PAADC 6.0 open tomorrow 💃💃🕺🏽. This year’s edition is themed Innovating Beyond Imagination. If you’ve been following our social media pages, or have that friend who just wouldn’t shut up about us,(quite annoying right? We can relate, but please pardon them for our sake 😁🙃) you would know that this year’s edition promises to be better than ever!
Applications are totally free and will be open from tomorrow, 30th May to July 8th. The competition is open to undergraduates across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria regardless of age or course of study.
Entries are only accepted in teams and teams comprise of 3-5 members only. The application handbook contains more information about applications and can be found on the PAADC official website.
Updates from the Nexus
The June edition of the PAADC Nexus will be held on Saturday 4th June, 2022. This will be the 3rd edition of the Nexus. Since it’s application season, this session will be geared towards equipping you with the necessary tools to produce disruptive innovations!
For those not familiar with the program, The Nexus is a monthly workshop for our vibrant community, where you get the chance to learn from leading minds and personalities in the STEM and innovation scene. This presents you with an avenue to develop existing skills, learn new ones, and explore the entirety of the varsity innovation scene.
So if you intend to apply to the competition, this upcoming edition will be one you should not miss. Event and registration details would roll out on our social media pages this week.
STEM updates
Twitter has been in the news the past few weeks following Elon Musk’s bid to buy the social media site. Recently, the billionaire set the internet agog once again by announcing that the offer to buy the company was temporarily on hold. It was stated that the reason for putting the offer on hold was to properly investigate the number of fake accounts on the site.
At this point, we can only sit back and watch as things unfold between the multi-billionaire and the social media site.
In other news, Africa is certainly making giant impacts in the tech world. Recently, Instabug, an Egyptian software firm that offers bug reporting, app performance monitoring, crash reporting, in-app chats, and user surveys for mobile apps, raised $46 million in Series B funding led by global software investor Insight Partners, with participation from existing investor Accel, as well as new investors Forgepoint Capital and Endeavor.
The new funding will allow Instabug to continue fulfilling its purpose of providing performance measurements and issue visibility to engineering teams, as well as customer insights and direct user input to product teams. Instabug is creating the first mobile observability and performance monitoring platform by extending its proactive issue detection, advanced debugging, and alert management capabilities.
Online voter registration ends on Monday
Elections are next year and the registration to get your Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) is still ongoing. If you don't have your PVC already, you can still register on the official INEC website before online registration closes tomorrow.
Note that after registering online, you have to go to your local government office for physical registration.
Summary
It's been an interesting week for those of us working behind the scenes to ensure everything is in place to start receiving applications. We know this new week is exciting to you as well, especially those who intend to apply for the competition.
Asides from the application window opening tomorrow, remember the Nexus session coming on Saturday. The session would be an amazing one, so be there and be ready to gain a lot!
