Hi there!
How have the past few weeks been for you? If you’re in Lagos, we definitely want an exclusive on how you’ve been able to cope amidst the fuel scarcity, heavy downpour, and incessant flooding.
Anyways, we have a lot in store for you this week. Let’s get right to it!
Nexus Recap
This month’s edition of PAADC Nexus consisted of three amazing sessions.
The first session addressed FAQs from applicants,
The next session had the past Chairman, Ajayi Oluwalana provide useful tips on how to apply for PAADC, and what the PAADC team looks out for. The Head of Competition Body and Scope, Adeniyi Adebayo equally gave us insight into the reason behind this year’s theme: “Innovating Beyond Imagination.”
The third and final session had John Godswill of Team Rawmac (last year’s winning team) show us a step-by-step guide to winning PAADC, and what the journey entails.
Adeniyi Adebayo stated that the idea behind this year’s theme “Innovating beyond Imagination” was doing beyond the regular way. PAADC pushes for new ideas and ways to reshape our reality. Consequently, PAADC aims to create a world where solutions can actually thrive.
According to Ajayi Oluwalana, past PAADC Chairman, while disruptive innovation is something that’s usually loud, it doesn’t always have to be. PAADC’s approach is to come up from the community, to state and national levels. Solutions that can directly improve situations in the state or country stand a higher chance of winning PAADC. Ajayi Oluwalana also stated that disruptive innovations did not have to be entirely new. He added that one can take existing solutions in a direction that nobody else has.
John Godswill, the team lead of Rawmac came on board, sharing the story of how Rawmac began. He stated that Rawmac Technologies was birthed from the need to preserve the life of the species in aquatic habitat and also to reduce the rate of deforestation in Nigeria. Hence, Rawmac decided to use excess plastic waste to cater to the demand for timber in Nigeria.
He also gave some juicy tips and pointers for applicants competing to win PAADC. If you couldn’t make it to the Nexus session, you can still catch up on all that and more here.

STEM Updates
Abeg, the popular cash app for quick, safe, and easy transfer of money, has undergone a major rebrand. The app was rebranded as Pocket by Piggyvest (PocketApp) and was approved to provide Mobile Money Services by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
According to PiggyTech Global Limited (Abeg App's parent company), the name change was required to reflect Abeg's evolution from a money transfer app to a social commerce platform. Following the completion of all regulatory requirements over the next 3-6 months, the final approval will be granted.
In other news, Amazon will compete with existing players such as Netflix, Showmax, and others for a piece of the Nigerian video streaming market. Amazon advertised open positions for its Nigerian Originals team in London in an effort to boost Prime Video activity. This move builds on previous collaborations with native movie production companies such as Anthill Studios and Inkblot Studios in January and December, respectively, to create original video content.
Insights Publicis, an advertising agency, has also been hired by Amazon to work on a customer acquisition campaign for Prime Video in Nigeria ahead of a Q3 2022 launch.
Voter Registration is Still Ongoing
The deadline for voter's registration has been extended, and if you are still yet to get your PVC, we'd sincerely like to know.
Remember, it is your civic duty to vote and take active part in the electoral processes and decisions of the country. We can only have the Nigeria we want if we put in the effort.
